Consensual Enslavement

Humbling Versus Humiliation

Humbling is putting someone into a position lower in Status than someone else. It is not intended to be demeaning or harmful. Having a slave on her knees before someone who is standing is a common way of humbling someone and very common in consensual enslavement.

Humiliation is a way of demeaning and tearing down or breaking a person, not usually a positive way of reinforcing consensual enslavement. It can be an extreme form of embarrassment. Humiliation is also a BDSM or D/s kink.

The core of both is embarrassment. People will be embarrassed at times based by things they do or say. This is normal. People can be embarrassed by certain comments on what they do or say. This too is common. Much of the time, it is done in fun among friends and while perhaps not the best of things, certainly not the worst. Humbling is not the same thing as embarrassment. It deals with status and place. Forced Humbling in consensual enslavement is a very common tool. It is common enough that most of the times what is causing it is not being thought of as humbling, only doing what we do, such as having a slave kneel to their owner.

Being dominant will sometimes cause someone who is submissive to put themselves into a humbled position relative to the dominant. Dominating someone can cause that position to be commanded. Training a slave, even in consensual enslavement does involve dominating the slave and enforcing the trainer's will on the slave. This is most true in the early parts of training and enslavement rather than the later reinforcing parts.

Humbling is one of the main tools that should be used early in the training and relationship and works very well as a reinforcing tool. Like any tool, you need to be aware that you are using it and be aware of any problems that its usage could cause. It is one of the safer tools to use and very traditional. In some styles and Traditions it is required.

Humbling's main expressions are in physical positions, speech and in objects of identification. Physical positions include the ever present and popular kneeling, presenting the body and various other Slave Positions. Slave positions in specific and their uses as tools are covered in Tools, but I also have links to my description of the Gorean slave positions and some others slave positions commonly used in other traditions and BDSM sources.

Humbled speech can and usually does include the terms a slave uses for both her owner and herself as well as the terms the owner uses for their slave. The second main speech usage is requiring the slave to beg for something rather than just ask for it. This can be begging for food, drink, to eat, to go somewhere or do something, clothing, the bathroom, or whatever the owner wants the slave to beg for. Sometimes third person speech either spoken or in writing is required either in general or at specific times as another form of humbling.

Physical representations of enslavement such as collars, tattoos, brands and other marks both temporary and permanent can also be used with humbling and sometimes have a strong psychological effect on the slave. An item which the slave is required to always wear which shows ownership is a very powerful tool of enslavement and reinforcement.

A Slave Collar, especially one that is locked on and that the slave does not have a key for is another very powerful physical tool. Some owners only use one collar or equivalent and some may have more than one item they use depending on the situation. It should be something, however, that only the owner puts on or takes off or changes. That level of control is a very important tool for creating and reinforcing consensual enslavement.

Marks of ownership or status such as tattoos or brands can also have a humbling as well as a controlling effect on the slave. A permanent mark of status or referring to someone creates an attachment that doesn't easily go away. Such marks can be shapes, words, pictures or whatever the owner and sometimes the slave wants. Such marks can be humiliating instead of humbling depending on what they are, or if words, what they say. Sometimes this comes later, especially if a relationship ends. Temporary writing is more often used for humiliation rather than humbling so this is an area that easily crosses between humbling and humiliation. This doesn't mean it is a bad tool, only one to be used carefully.

Humiliation can be a tool used for enslavement. Yes, even a tool for training and enslaving a consensual slave. Under the dictum that anything can be a tool, it fits. In some instances, I have used it and recommended its usage. Consider this a specialized tool, rather than a general tool. When used extensively, you will have breakage rather than enslavement. There is a lot of porn involving humiliation including whole web sites about it. Many Doms and Masters use it for their sub or slave to 'prove' themselves by doing something humiliating. If humiliation is what turns on the person being humiliated, then fine, it is their kink and their game, just try not to do things which are illegal. If it is a main kink of the owner, then they may be going into the realm of non-consensual enslavement. Unless they find their perfect match of a slave who wants the same thing to the same level, there is an extreme probability of physical and psychological damage.
