One of the Cultural or customary practices that is sometimes, but not always, employed, is giving a new slave a slave name by which they are referred to and they refer to themselves. The rationale behind this is based on several factors. Some of them are the old BDSM/Leather (and earlier) scene name and the more modern screen name. The other main concept is that a slave does not own anything, including their own name, therefore it can be changed by the Master. Goreans have a custom of giving a slave name as well to show ownership. Some people use the slave’s, usually first name as their slave name.
The key point is the slave does not choose their own name and therefore it is part of their identity as a slave which is imposed upon them by outside control. This makes it a tool of Enslavement. The constant self-reference to their new slave name makes it also a Reinforcement tool.
