Certain numbers and number patterns have a subconscious effect on people. Three is a very important number based on how our minds remember and process things. Since we have five fingers, five is also very important as is ten, or two hands. The instructions in the first chapter of I Can Do This have 25 steps so groups of five is another example of using numbers on a subconscious level.
If there are odd numbers or odd patterns of numbers it can be disrupting and draw attention away from the content while a person’s brain processes the information. If something feels wrong it will inhibit the learning of new material. It can also produce Cognitive Dissonance. Intentionally using number and number patterns can enhance learning or restrict it. Numbers in this usage are usually below most people’s perception.
